Deprecate Private Pages and Replace their main features

Deprecate Private Pages and create new features in order for the user to not loose the main benefits of using them.

Background:

There have been identify several limitation and challenges regarding Private Pages:

• The concept of public and private pages is very unique to Liferay, as a result new users must learn about it and often causes confusion to them.

• The differentiation site administrators to be aware of both potential sets of pages even if they are not needed.

  • While we’ve taken measures to mitigate this in the UI, it’s not possible to do it 100% without losing some functionality.

• Complexity of page selection UIs: every time a page needs to be selected, users are presented with a tabbed interface showing public and private pages, even if one of the two sets is not relevant (very common case)

• The impact of public and private pages on the permissions for new content causes confusion to users and is frequently reported via Support and as a bug.

  • Changing the behavior one way or another to make it more predictable would make things better for some use cases but worse for others.

• Public Pages and Private Pages behave like two different sites in many ways, but:

  • They share content, which may not be obvious to content creators and may cause them to accidentally expose private content to visitors.

  • The two sites are related but Liferay does not offer any functionality switch between the two.
